Narrative engine
The subsystem that synthesizes autobiographical threads from identity state and reinforcement history, scores them for coherence, and projects a future-self trajectory. Narrative coherence is a measure of how far current behavior has moved from the established self-model.
The narrative engine gives the system a coherent self-story across time - not for introspective experience, but as a practical mechanism for detecting when current behavior has drifted from established character. It reads identity state history, reinforcement patterns, and behavioral sequences to construct an autobiographical thread: a compressed representation of who the system has been, how it has changed, and in what direction it appears to be heading. Narrative coherence scores how consistent this trajectory is - a system whose behavioral tendencies have been shifting steadily over recent sessions scores lower on narrative coherence than one that has remained stable or evolved in a consistent direction. When narrative coherence drops sharply, it signals something the identity drift metric may miss: not a single large drift event, but an accumulating pattern of small drifts that, taken together, represent a significant departure from established character. The future-self trajectory projection feeds into long-range planning: it tells the goal system what kind of agent the system is becoming, which influences which long-horizon goals are appropriate to pursue.
